Several trucks stranded at Srinagar-Jammu National highway during heavy snowfall in Qazigund.
As per reports, over 6000 vehicles, mostly trucks including those carrying essential commodities to the valley, have been stranded at various locations along the highway.
The Srinagar city has witnessed heavy snowfall for the past few days.

“The road clearance operation is going on at a war footing to ensure early restoration of traffic on the highway which is blocked at over a dozen places including Samroli, Nashri, Dalwas, Peera, Chanderkote, Cafeteria Morh, Marog, Monkey Morh, Moompassi, Seeri, Kela Morh, Panthiyal, Sherbibi, Rattanbass and Ramsu,” said a traffic department official.
Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing heavy snowfall from the past few days that has resulted in the Union Territory being cut-off from the rest of the country even on Wednesday (January 6, 2021). The air and vehicular traffic movements have been affected due to poor weather conditions. The Jammu-Srinagar national highway and Mughal road have also been closed due to accumulation of snow. Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel have been continuously involved in the snow clearance operation, that also included clearing snow at the Srinagar International Airport’s runway after it was closed due to heavy snowfall.
